An Open Door Farm

Green Family Farms is what we like to call an open door farm.

Today we're out here in rural Texas, but it wasn’t always that way. I was actually a city kid and didn’t grow up in the country at all.

When I was young, after my parents divorced, my dad would pick us up on weekends from my mom’s house. Many Sundays we would simply drive through the countryside together. I remember looking out the window at the farms we passed and wondering, Who lives there? What is it like inside those gates? More than anything, I remember wishing we could stop and visit.

For my dad, those drives meant something more. His family lost their farm in the Cuban Revolution.  As a kid I did not really understand why, but I knew driving the open land and rural countryside always seemed to stir something deep inside my dad.

Now, in adult life, I find myself living on a farm of my own — not because it was something I had always dreamed of, but because of a similar pull toward the land my husband carried with him from childhood.

Over time I’ve noticed something interesting. Almost every person who visits the farm has a story of their own. Some remember a grandparent’s farm that was lost or sold long ago. Others remember spending childhood summers visiting relatives in the country. Nearly everyone carries some memory of the land that still lives quietly inside them.

And there is something about a farm that seems to pull people back to those memories like no other place.

While many farms today sit quietly behind closed gates, we like to think of ours a little differently.

We are the open door farm.

Green Family Farms is a place for people who have ever wondered what life on a farm is really like — the same curiosity I had as a little girl looking out the car window.

Visitors are welcome to experience the farm, take a guided tour, meet the animals, and spend a little time slowing down. You can also sit in our small café lounge, enjoy a drink or simple bite, and watch the rhythm of farm life happening all around you.

It’s a quiet, peaceful place where kids can run and play in the backyard area between the animals and the café seating while parents relax, sip, and visit. For the kids, we keep simple activities on hand — sidewalk chalk, coloring pages, balls, and hula hoops — because sometimes the best moments on a farm are the simplest ones.

What once felt like a mystery when I was a child driving past country farms

is now something we love sharing with others.

Visitors are always welcome here.

Located about an hour and twenty minutes from Dallas, the farm is a perfect countryside visit                                        for anyone looking to slow down and enjoy a day outside the city.

Stay connected...

I’ve been farming for over 20 years, and along the way, I’ve collected more stories  than I can count—some hard, some funny, and some that feel like small miracles.

I’m also writing a book, and I’ll be sharing parts of it in a series.
